HISTORY ASPECTS:The Cubana IL-62M registered as CU-T1280 was a pivotal aircraft in the Cuban airlines fleet during the 1970s and 1980s. The IL-62M was a long-range Soviet-built airliner produced by the Ilyushin design bureau and was designed to compete with Western aircraft such as the Boeing 707 and Douglas DC-8. Cubana Cuba’s national airline was among the first international carriers to operate the IL-62M which provided them with the ability to fly long-haul routes to destinations in Europe Africa and Latin America.
