Our British Staunton draws inspiration from a vintage design originating from the old British Chess Company in the mid-1800s. Featuring a purely traditional Staunton design, the pieces are handcrafted from genuine ebony and boxwood with the ebony pieces hand polished to lustrous black obsidian finish. This is a thirty-four-piece set that includes two extra queens for pawn promotion. The king is 3.5"-tall with base diameter of 1.5" making it ideal for your casual chess games at tome. The pieces are heavily weighted for exceptional stability and have thick green baize pads on the bottom for a soft cushion on the chess board. We include a Certificate of Manufacturer so you will always know what the pieces are, when they were made, and where they came from.
