In 2015, the period drama Nirvana in Fire made a huge pop culture splash as one of the most popular and acclaimed Chinese TV series of recent years. Two years later, Nirvana in Fire returns with a highly anticipated sequel, again spearheaded by Daylight Entertainment producer Hou Hongliang, directors Kong Sheng and Li Xue, and writer Hai Yan. Carried by strong, moving themes of family, bravery and brotherhood, the handsome sequel features new characters and a new story set two generations after the events of the first series. Young breakout actor Liu Haoran (Chinatown Detective) takes the leading role of free-spirited hero Xiao Pingjing, the second son of General Xiao Tingsheng who appeared in the first series as the boy adopted by Wang Kai's Xiao Jingyan. Veteran Sun Chun plays Xiao Tingsheng, while Huang Xiaoming and Tong Liya make special appearances as General Xiao's oldest son and his wife. Nirvana in Fire II also co-stars Zhang Huiwen (Coming Home), Mei Ting, Guo Jingfei (Longmen Express), Wu Haochen (Ode to Joy), Zhang Bo (Three Kingdoms) and Qiao Xin (Ode to Joy). Amid the chaos of the Northern and Southern Dynasties, the Changlin army, led by sage and selfless general Xiao Tingsheng (Sun Chun), valiantly protects the border of the Liang Dynasty. Xiao Tingsheng and his two sons, prudent heir apparent Pingzhang (Huang Xiaoming) and free-spirited martial artist Pingjing (Liu Haoran), enjoy the unwavering trust of Emperor Liang (Liu Jun), the son of Xiao Jingyan. Keenly aware of the great risks and responsibilities that come with military power, Tingsheng and Pingzhang dedicate themselves only to serving their king and country and try to stay removed from political factions and powerplay. Changlin, however, is viewed as a threat by many, including the Empress (Mei Ting) and her older brother, the Grand Secretary (Bi Yangjun). The ill-hearted constantly lay traps to put the Changlin army and manor in check. In this delicate and dangerous environment, the unfettered and impulsive Pingjing regularly gets himself into trouble, but his father and older brother are there to guide and support him. When war and tragedy strike, the carefree youth will be forced to grow up and bear the name of Changlin.
