Director Kore-eda Hirokazu and screenwriter Sakamoto Yuji collaborate for the first time for the film Monster, which won Best Screenplay and the Queer Palm at the 76th Cannes Film Festival. Sensitive, multi-layered and deeply human, Monster employs a Rashomon-like structure to gradually reveal the different experiences and perspectives of various characters, and the complex inner world of the precocious boys at the heart of the story. Child actors Kurokawa Soya and Hiiragi Hinata are surrounded by an all-star ensemble cast that includes Ando Sakura, Nagayama Eita, Takahata Mitsuki, Nakamura Shido and legendary actress Tanaka Yuko. The film features music by legendary composer Sakamoto Ryuichi. Single mother Saori (Ando Sakura) is concerned about her son Minato (Kurokawa Soya), who has been behaving erratically. After hearing something upsetting about Minato's homeroom teacher (Nagayama Eita), she goes to his school to address the matter, only to be stonewalled by the frustratingly evasive principal (Tanaka Yuko) and teaching staff. Determined to protect her son, Saori pushes for a proper response from the school, but then conflicting accounts emerge about Minato fighting with classmate Yori (Hiiragi Hinata). This edition comes with a bonus disc containing making-of and event footage.
