Following 2017's The 8-Year Engagement, director Zeze Takahisa and actor Satoh Takeru collaborate again for In the Wake, the film adaptation of Nakayama Shichiri's suspense novel Mamorarenakatta Monotachi e (To Those Who Were Not Protected). Hayashi Tamio, who worked on The Snow White Murder Case, The Eternal Zero and Shield of Straw, serves as screenwriter of the crime mystery that explores trauma, justice and social issues of poverty and inequality. Set in Sendai nine years after the 2011 Tohoku earthquake, In the Wake co-stars Abe Hiroshi as well as Kiyohara Kaya, Hayashi Kento, Nagayama Eita, Ogata Naoto, Yoshioka Hidetaka and Baisho Mitsuko. Tomashino Seiichiro (Abe Hiroshi), a detective in the Miyagi police department, is investigating a mysterious serial murder case in which the victims were tied up and starved to death. In the course of investigation, a suspect emerges: Tone Yasuhisa (Satoh Takeru), who was recently released from prison after serving time for arson. Tomashino hunts down Tone but there is no conclusive evidence against him. Meanwhile, another case occurs. This edition comes with a special booklet and a bonus DVD containing making-of and stage greeting footage.
