G was a powerful variation of the StuG III series equipped with a 10.5 cm leFH 18 howitzer to serve as a dedicated infantry support vehicle. First introduced in 1943 the StuH.42 was developed to provide direct fire support especially against entrenched positions and infantry complementing the StuG III’s anti-tank role.
