In 1960 the 28th edition Le Mans 24 Hours took place on 25 and 26 June on Circuit de la Sarthe. The prospect of a duel between the 3-litre (180 cu in) Ferrari versus the 2-litre (120 cu in) Porsche championship-leaders caught a large crowds to the race and almost 200.000 spectators gathered for one of the best Europes classic sports car race on a 13.5 km (8.4 mi) circuit.
