HISTORY ASPECTS:The P-40N Warhawk flown by Major Gerald Johnson of the 49th Fighter Group was an essential asset to the U.S. Army Air Forces during the Pacific Theater of World War II. In October 1944 Major Johnson who was the commanding officer of the 9th Fighter Squadron was engaged in key aerial combat missions over the Philippines. The P-40N was an improved version of the P-40 series featuring enhanced engine performance and a larger fuel tank for extended range.
