HISTORY ASPECTS:The Bell AH-1W "Whiskey Cobra" is a two-bladed twin-engine attack helicopter developed from the Vietnam-era AH-1G HueyCobra. It entered service with the United States Marine Corps (USMC) in 1986 and served in various conflicts including Operation Desert Storm Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan.In 2020 the USMC retired the AH-1W after over three decades of service. The last operational flight of the AH-1W took place on October 14 2020 by the USMCs Squadron 267 at Camp Pendleton California.The AH-1W was known for its versatility speed and agility and was a vital asset to the USMC in close air support armed reconnaissance and anti-armor operations.
